During the cutting process, large quantities of emitted heat are concentrated on a small surface area interface between workpiece and edge. The resultant very high temperature significantly affects tool life. Knowledge maximum temperatures to be expected edges is important, as it allows conditions adjusted in such manner that critical value thermal resistance not exceeded for material. In effect, effectiveness working process maintained. This article offers systematic presentation methods used measurements. It discusses their advantages disadvantages, well usefulness individual different types machining processes. also points possibility methodological errors which reduce measurement accuracy. above issues believed justify discussion methods. conclusions here presented may particular importance researchers interested field, especially high-efficiency machining, new materials cutting-edge protective coatings, various fluid applications. They allow more informed selection most suitable situations.
